You may have seen it on a store shelf and turned away from it with the unfamiliar name “kefir”. Here are a few reasons you may want to consider plopping this in your cart the next time you are at a health foods store. The drink helps clean up guts and balances good and bad bacteria. The good bacterium supports your immune system and helps break down foods. While a healthy diet is the key to a healthy gut, taking probiotics or drinks like kefir can help bring balance back. Plus, it can be easy to make at home.

Here is a recipe you may want to try.

Homemade Blueberry Kefir
Makes four pints or four servings.

4 cups homemade kefir
1 cup frozen organic wild blueberries
1/4 cup Sucanat (or other sweetener)

Blend ingredients in Vitamix or other high-powered blender until fully combined. Pour into pint-sized mason jars or whatever other containers you’d like, and refrigerate.

*Note that the blueberry kefir will separate in the fridge, so just give jars a little shake before drinking.
