In a recent study, the ratio of two types of bacteria in the intestines determines the weight you lose once you are on a certain diet. These two types of bacteria are prevotella that digest carbohydrates and bacteroidetes that digest animal protein and fat.
In a study, 62 people were given whole grain, high fiber diet for 26 weeks. Those with bacteroidetes in their intestines lost 2.3 kg of body fat less than the ones who had Prevotella .
