There are so many different ways to lose weight. Of course, at Cenegenics Boston, we promote an overall healthy lifestyle that includes balanced nutrition with a focus on fresh fruits and vegetables, regular exercise, nutritional supplementation, and hormone replacement when medically indicated.
We are asked by many of our patients about low carb and low fat diets. Which one will help you lose more weight? According to the results of a recent study funded by the National Institutes of Health, the answer is definitive.
A low carb diet is the winner.
After 12 months, the results of the NIH study of 148 men and women revealed that those on the low-carbohydrate diet had greater decreases in weight, fat mass, and cholesterol levels than those on the low-fat diet.
It’s no surprise that eliminating starchy, unhealthy foods like pasta, bread, sugary cereals, potatoes, and white sugar from your diet will help you lose weight.
So what do you eat when you’re limiting your carbs? In general, you can eat proteins, including meat, poultry, fish and eggs, and some nonstarchy vegetables. Try to buy organic whenever possible (meats and veggies).
