One of the many myths about living a health-conscious life is that you won’t be able to enjoy a nice dinner with friends or a meal at your favorite restaurant anymore. That is definitely not the case, if you know how to mix a social life with a healthy one. Here are a few tips to guide you along the way:

Read the menu beforehand

It has never been easier to decide where you want to go out than it is today, since you can find everything online, from location to prices and even menus. Make sure you read the menu before and check if you have some healthy options so you won’t be “forced” to order a burger and fries. Also look at the gluten-free menu; you will definitely find some healthy options there.

Don’t go out feeling hungry

This is just like going to the supermarket on an empty stomach – you will end up buying everything. You definitely don’t want to go to a restaurant and order half of the menu, as healthy as the food may be. The best way to avoid that is by having a healthy snack at home, before you go out. This way you will resist your cravings before the meal is served.

Stay away from chips, bread and sauces

If you take our advice and have a healthy snack before eating out or if you order a glass of water before your meal, you will be able to resist the crunchy chips and bread served beforehand. Once your dish is on the table, don’t ruin it by adding sauces and dressings to it; most of the times they are richer in calories than the meal itself and full of fat, oil and sugars.

Make the side of veggies your best friend

Forget about that delicious side of fries and stick to a small salad or a side of veggies. These will help you feel full faster and are also a very healthy option.

Always do your best to keep it simple. The simpler the meal is, the healthier it will be. Also, keep these tips in mind, but don’t stress too much over it. Don’t turn the fun of socializing and eating out into a dreadful experience when you have to add all the calories and double check the ingredients.
