When you’re pursuing a new healthy lifestyle plan, navigating the holidays can be tricky. With Labor Day Weekend fast approaching, we thought we’d give you a few pointers on how to make the most of your holiday without derailing your diet. Follow our guide for your healthiest Labor Day yet.

Rise & Shine

Begin your day with a nutritious breakfast and you will already be off to a great start. We recommend a plate containing these three items: protein (eggs), veggies (such as spinach and tomato), and organic sprouted grain bread. Or whip up a fruit smoothie with plenty of fresh spinach thrown in.

Go for a Walk/Run

With so much energy from your breakfast, this will be a treat for your body. Try for three miles or 30 minutes!

Snack/Lunch

Prepare some healthy snacks ahead of time so you don’t cave in to unhealthy potato chips or other greasy/sugary foods. Kale chips are a wonderful crunchy, salty alternative.

Go Swimming With the Fam

Most pools close for the season the day after Labor Day, so make the most of the last day of summer and go to your local rec center or neighborhood pool. Instead of lounging in a chair, get in the water and swim a few laps. If you have kids, join them in their water games. The point is – keep your body moving! The Vitamin D from the sunshine will also contribute to your healthiest day.

Grill Your Dinner

For a delicious and nutrient packed dinner, fire up the grill. Include some lean meat such as chicken or fish and grilled vegetables, with a big green salad on the side.

Watch the Fireworks

Find some fireworks near you. Chances are you will have to park a brief distance from the action, so you will burn even more calories walking to and from the festivities. You will be having so much fun you won’t even notice you’re exercising more!

Happy Labor Day from all of us at Cenegenics Boston. May you have a safe, happy, and healthy holiday weekend.
